The Ninth Annual Veterans Day Parade, hosted by none other than Veterans Elementary School, will take place on Friday, November 7 with a special designation. The school’s parade has the official endorsement of the Chula Vista City Council.
City Councilwoman Patricia Aguilar, wife of a Vietnam Veteran, said she was proud to support the school parade, and hoped the city’s endorsement will help it grow.
“We should let the world know this is going on,” Aguilar said.
The 9th Annual ‘Honoring Our Heroes’ Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony takes place on Fri., Nov. 7, 2014.
With festive marching bands and solemn military tributes, the “Honoring Our Heroes” Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony brings together veterans, community members and students in a multi-generational observance of the Veterans Day Holiday.
“It really is a privilege for our school to honor military veterans,” said Principal Froylan Villanueva. “Our parade has been going on for eight years. It really has been a quiet parade, a little gem here in the city of Chula Vista.”
A gem with the occasional military fly-over, and numerous police and military armored vehicles. Of course, local veterans are the highlight. Students and spouses of military personnel share emotional tributes about the sacrifices of their loved ones to both our country and their families. Three local high schools support the event with marching bands and cheerleaders.
“The beautiful thing about our parade is the veterans,” Villanueva said. “We have veterans walk in the parade. If they cannot walk, we have the South Bay Cruisers (car club) in the parade and providing rides. Last year, we had a World War II veteran in the parade. …We also have active duty military personnel who walk in the parade with their children. If you see the faces of those students, of those parents, of those veterans—you see why we put on this parade. We don’t lose sight of why we do it. It is for the veterans.”
