Students, staff, parents and community members helped formally dedicate the re-opening of Rosebank Elementary School on Friday, September 5. The festive atmosphere came after a summer of fast-paced work by contractors and the District’s Facilities Department to get the campus ready for the start of school on Sept. 4.

Rosebank, Castle Park, and Lilian J. Rice schools reopened after extensive bond-funded improvements that included electrical upgrades, undergrounding of utilities, energy enhancements (heating, air-conditioning), and better WiFi access. Rosebank Principal Chris Vickers (photos below, with scissors), Superintendent Francisco Escobedo, Ed.D., Board Member Glendora M. Tremper, and teacher Brandy McKenney (photos below, at right), were among those who took part in the ceremonial ribbon-cutting. Castle Park and Rice school celebrations are to come.

“It really is a hometown community here at Rosebank,” Escobedo said. “Parents, teachers, students, and administrators—you guys are a family in many ways. It is great to have such a beautiful environment to invite all of your family to come and enjoy.”

With nearly 69% voter approval in the November 6, 2012, general election, Proposition E (Prop E) allows the District to make substantial improvements to the educational environment at our neediest campuses. Prop E created a School Facilities Improvement District (SFID) encompassing 31 of our 45 schools. Next summer, campus modernizations will get underway at Ella B. Allen, Hilltop Drive, and Vista Square schools.
